In a city as busy as Vancouver, it is surprisingly easy for our older neighbors to feel left behind. At Marpole Oakridge Family Place (MOFP), we believe that seniors are the anchors of our community. Their wisdom, stories, and presence are essential to the fabric of Marpole.
That is why we have moved far beyond being “just” a place for kids. Today, MOFP is a thriving hub for seniors, providing a specialized ecosystem of care, safety, and social joy.
The MOFP Seniors Circle: Your Social Home
The heart of our elder services is the MOFP Seniors Circle. This isn’t just a meeting; it’s a community. From sharing stories over a cup of tea to participating in weekly webinars on health and wellness, the Circle is designed to combat isolation.
For those looking for a deeper sense of connection across ages, our Intergenerational Programs bring seniors and teenagers together. These sessions are magical—they allow teens to learn from a lifetime of experience while giving seniors a fresh perspective on the modern world.
Practical Support for Independent Living
Getting older often comes with a mountain of paperwork and technical questions. Our Seniors Outreach Coordinator and specialized clinics are here to help you navigate the “business” of aging with confidence:
-
Income Tax Clinic: We take the stress out of tax season with accessible, friendly support.
-
Seniors Safety Service: We provide education and resources to ensure you feel safe and secure in your own home and neighborhood.
-
My Life Kit & Advocacy Clinic: Need help with government forms or navigating healthcare? Our advocacy and support clinic provides a guiding hand.
-
Time and Space with Andrea: A dedicated program for personalized outreach, ensuring no senior falls through the cracks.
A Network of Care: Leading the Way in South Vancouver
MOFP doesn’t work in a vacuum. We take our responsibility as a community leader seriously. As the South Vancouver Seniors Network Lead, we coordinate monthly partner meetings and act as a Community Response Network Representative.
What does this mean for you? It means when you walk into MOFP, you aren’t just getting one organization’s help—you are plugging into a massive network of South Vancouver resources designed to protect and empower vulnerable adults.
Unity, Resiliency, and Wellness
We understand that many seniors in our neighborhood come from diverse backgrounds and may face unique challenges. Our Unity and Resiliency Circles (URC)—offered both in the evenings and on Friday mornings—provide a safe space for cultural connection and emotional support. These circles foster a sense of belonging that is vital for mental health and long-term wellness.
“At MOFP, we don’t just see a ‘senior’—we see a neighbor with a history, a heart, and a future. Our goal is to make sure that future is bright and connected.” — Andrea Krombein, Seniors Outreach Coordinator
