In the heart of South Vancouver, where the pace of city life can sometimes feel a little too fast, there is a place where time slows down—a place where toddlers find their first friends, seniors find connection, and families find a second home.
Since 1978, Marpole Oakridge Family Place (MOFP) has been more than just a service provider; we are a vital social anchor. Whether you are a new parent navigating the sleepless nights of early childhood or a senior looking for a vibrant community to share a meal with, MOFP is here to ensure that no one in Marpole has to walk their journey alone.
A Legacy of Connection: From a Living Room to a Community HUB
Our story began nearly 45 years ago in a simple private living room. Driven by the belief that strong families make strong neighborhoods, MOFP evolved from a volunteer-run project into a cornerstone of the Marpole community.
Today, we operate out of a purpose-built space within the Marpole Community HUB on Lord Street. This strategic location isn’t just about convenience—it’s about accessibility. By centering our services where people live and play, we remove the barriers that often keep families isolated.
Why “Family Place” Means Everyone
While our roots are in supporting parents and children aged 0–6, we realized that a healthy community requires support across every generation. In 2014, we expanded our mandate to include Seniors and Vulnerable Adults, making us a truly intergenerational “Family Place.”
Our Major Programs: Support for Every Life Stage
We pride ourselves on being a “one-stop-shop” for social wellness. Here is how we support the diverse residents of Marpole and Oakridge:
1. Early Childhood & Parenting Support (Ages 0–6)
Our Drop-In Programs offer a secure, stimulating environment where children can learn through play. But the impact goes beyond the kids; we provide a space for caregivers to find respite and solidarity.
-
The Impact: 95% of parents in our programs report improved self-esteem and 88% see improved opportunities for their children’s well-being.
2. Seniors & Vulnerable Adults Outreach
Isolation is one of the greatest challenges facing our aging population. Our Seniors Outreach programs are designed to keep our elders active, informed, and connected.
-
The Focus: Skills development, social lunches, and resource navigation to ensure our seniors can age with dignity and joy.
3. Social Literacy & Newcomer Integration
Vancouver is a mosaic of cultures, and we want everyone to feel at home. We offer Social Literacy programs to help newcomers learn English in a supportive, low-pressure environment.
-
The Goal: By removing language barriers, we empower immigrant families to access jobs, medical care, and further education.
The S.T.R.O.N.G. Framework: Our Core Values
Everything we do at MOFP is guided by our S.T.R.O.N.G. values. These aren’t just words on a wall; they are the blueprint for how we treat every person who walks through our doors:
| Value | What it Means for You |
| Supportive | We provide a safe, non-judgmental space for everyone. |
| Trust | We build lasting relationships rooted in honesty and reliability. |
| Relationship | Authentic connection is our primary mission. |
| Openness | We welcome all cultural and socio-economic backgrounds. |
| Nurturing | We care deeply about the potential of every individual. |
| Growth | we empower you to learn, thrive, and reach your goals. |
Real Impact: By the Numbers
Social connection isn’t just a “nice-to-have”—it’s a pathway to stability. According to recent impact data from our partners at the Cause We Care Foundation, families who engage with these types of community networks see life-changing results:
-
93% report increased hopefulness.
-
95% have made progress toward their educational goals.
-
69% report improved financial security through the resources and networking found at the HUB.
