The Marpole Oakridge Family Place Playroom

Our Drop-In Playroom is open Monday to Friday from 9am to 12pm and on Saturdays from 11:30 until 2pm for parents and caregivers with children aged infant to six years old.  The first visit is free and therafter the daily drop-in fee is $1 per family per visit. The Playroom is nut-free and scent-free.

Drop-in activities include:

  • Arts and crafts
  • Educational toys
  • Storytimes with a librarian from Vancouver Public Library
  • Visits from the Toy Lending Library
  • Skills workshops
  • Health workshops and clinics 
  • Weekly Playroom Programs (see below)

Weekly Playroom Programs  (programs are subject to change and availability)

Parent and Baby Salsa
Fridays from 10:15-11 on the 3rd floor of Marpole Place. 
Parents, grandparents  or caregivers are welcome.  Bring a baby carrier along  and wear comfortable clothing.  Pay if you can. This program is partly funded by the Marpole Literacy Task Group.

Hop with Carol
Wednesdays 11:15-11:45 
Come and join the fun of this energetic and educational circle time! 

Riding Toys 
Mondays and/or Wednesdays 10:15-10:30 for ages 0-3,  10:30-11:00 for ages 3-6.

Bring a friend and come and ride a child sized car, wagon,  tricycle or other fun riding toy!  Fun and exercise all in one exciting session!

The Dad and Me Program
Saturday mornings 10:00-11:30 
This program offers a full hot breakfast followed by an interactive circle time including singing,  storytelling and fun activities. Dads and  children aged infant to six years are invited.  Join us for this joyful morning and meet other dads with children in the community.  The program is free for members.   To become a member click on the membership link at the top of this page. For more information on this program, contact the Playroom Coordinator on playroomcoordinator@mofp.org.  Dad and Me takes a recess for the summer and starts again on September 29, 2012 - running every Saturday - except for long weekends or unless otherwise announced - until June 1, 2013.

Circle Times
We hold regular multicultural circle times - check the calendar online or in our playroom.

Playroom Services

 "New-to-you" clothing
Families can access quality donated clothing supplies for children aged infant to six years old. Women's clothing, shoes and accessories are also available. For more information,  ask the Playroom Coordinator.

 

Toy Lending Library
Every other Tuesday
, parents are able to borrow toys, books and puzzles to enjoy with their children.  The resources are loaned for a week.  This service is provided by the  Westcoast Child Care Resource Centre. For more information, ask the Playroom Coordinator.

 

Marpole Oakridge Family Place Lending Library 
Our in-house lending library is well stocked with books,  videos, and information sheets covering all aspects of parenting and families information. Families are welcome to browse the collection. A special section of children's books is available to encourage a love of reading!

An information binder specific to family needs has been compiled and families are encouraged to suggest topics for inclusion. 

A computer with Internet access is available for parents and caregivers to research their information needs.
